FIELD: industrial organic synthesis.
SUBSTANCE: benzene and olefin feedstocks are supplied to first alkylation zone in presence of first alkylation catalyst under first alkylation conditions to produce first effluent containing alkylbenzene and first alkylation top stream. The latter is separated into benzene-containing liquid phase and vapor phase containing unreacted olefin. Unreacted olefin is then absorbed into stream of aromatic depleted absorption oil containing benzene and alkylbenzene, which oil is then passed to second alkylation zone containing second alkylation catalyst to produce, under second alkylation conditions, aromatic depleted absorption oil stream, a part of which is recycled into absorption zone. Process is particularly suitable for alkylation of benzene with ethylene to produce ethylbenzene. In this case conversion of ethylene reaches 99.9%.
EFFECT: increased conversion of olefins and reduced need of catalyst.
