FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to versions of a method of producing an alkylated aromatic compound One of the versions includes the following steps: (a) feeding a raw material stream into a dehydration area, said stream including an alkylatable aromatic compound, water and impurities, said impurities including a compound containing at least one of the following elements: nitrogen, halogens, oxygen, sulphur, arsenic, selenium, tellurium, phosphorus and metals of groups 1-12; (b) removing at least a portion of said water from said raw material stream in said dehydration area, which is operated in suitable dehydration conditions to obtain a dehydrated stream which includes said alkylatable aromatic compound, any water residues and said impurities; (c) contacting at least a portion of said dehydrated stream and a first alkylating agent stream with a first alkylation catalyst having a first toxin capacity, wherein said first alkylation catalyst is a coarse-pored molecular sieve having impediment index of less than 2, in a first alkylation reaction zone at suitable, at least in part, first liquid-phase reaction conditions in order to remove at least a portion of said impurities, and alkylating at least a portion of said alkylatable aromatic compound with said first alkylating agent stream and obtaining a first alkylated stream, which includes an alkylated aromatic compound (compounds), unreacted alkylatable aromatic compound, any water residues and any impurity residues; (d) contacting said first alkylated stream and a second alkylating agent stream with a second alkylation catalyst different from said first alkylation catalyst, said second alkylation catalyst having a second toxin capacity, and including a molecular sieve of the MCM-22 series or a medium-pored molecular sieve having an impediment index of 2-12, in a second alkylation reaction zone at suitable, at least in part, second liquid-phase reaction conditions in order to alkylate at least a portion of said unreacted alkylatable aromatic compound with said second alkylating agent stream and obtaining a second alkylated stream which includes an additional amount of said alkylated aromatic compound (compounds), unreacted alkylatable aromatic compound, any water residues and any impurity residues.

EFFECT: use of the present invention reduces the negative effect of water and impurities on catalyst life.
