FIELD: fishery, in particular, methods for counting of young fish in water flow.

SUBSTANCE: method involves forming one-layer and unidirectional passage through object counting zone for counting of objects in water and exposing objects to light field; registering in object counting zone color characteristics of light fluxes reflected from objects; revealing young fish of predetermined kind among associated foreign matter by comparing color characteristics of objects with reference values of characteristics of young fish kind under counting process; in case color characteristic values coincide, counting population of young fish, with reference values of color characteristics of light fluxes for young fish kind under counting process being preliminarily set; selecting spectral composition of light field, with merism of colors of light fluxes from young fish under counting process and from associated foreign matter being eliminated. Color or color grade coordinates are used in counting process as color characteristics of light fluxes reflected from objects.

EFFECT: simplified process for counting of young fish in water flow.
