FIELD: mechanical engineering; welding.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to electric beam welding of butt joint of thin-walls shells with stoppers. Thin-walled shell is assembled with stopper and welded by electron beam. Assembling is carried out with at least one local clearance in butt joint spreading through all its depth and with extent along butt joint not less than size of welding bath in said direction and width equal to 0.2-0.4 of thickness of shell wall. Clearance is formed by vertical channel made on weldable end face of stopper at its manufacture. Welding in zone of clearance is carried out at reduced convective heat transfer to stopper provided by preliminary making a flat on stopper seat connected with vertical channel in lower part of butt joint. Required depth of penetration is determined by absence of intolerable outer defects of weld in zone of clearance.
EFFECT: improved live checking of depth of penetration, prevention of mass rejects.
