FIELD: production of melamine free from melem.

SUBSTANCE: proposed method consists in treatment of melamine melt obtained by high pressure method by water; after separation of waste gases, melamine melt is slaked by aqueous alkaline-containing solution, thus forming aqueous alkaline solution of melamine which is subjected to crystallization for forming solid melamine. Slaking device has at least one inlet hole which is so located that incoming flow of liquid is oriented tangentially relative to slaking device wall. Thus, melamine at content of melam lesser than 1000 ppm and content of melem lesser than 500 ppm is obtained.
