FIELD: manufacture of self-sharpening knives and other cutting tools having blades provided with hard coating.
SUBSTANCE: tool has cutting edge onto one side of which coating is applied. Coating has hardness degree exceeding that of material of cutting edge and it has laminate or laminar microstructure parallel relative to coated side of cutting edge. Method for making such tool is also offered.
EFFECT: improved design of cutting blade enhancing process of cutting, namely of soft materials that may be easily damaged by rupture, stable wear resistance characteristics of blade edge.
