FIELD: electrical engineering; manufacture of alkali batteries using nickel-oxide plates.

SUBSTANCE: proposed method for producing nickel hydroxide for alkali battery nickel-oxide plate involves nickel hydroxide precipitation from nickel hydroxide solution by sodium alkali solution with dosed supply of solutions followed by washing, filtration, and drying; novelty is that nickel hydroxide pulp obtained in precipitation is fed to washing tank, mixed up with water in proportion of S : L = 1 : (50-70) at temperature of 80-90 °C; then nickel hydroxide pulp mixed up with water is settled down for 4-6 minutes and then three times washed with water heated to 50-65 °C so that solution containing sulfate-ions were each time fully substituted by similar amount of wash water avoiding their mixing which is ensured at water feed rate of 0.2-0.6 m/h not over particle settling rate noted during nickel hydroxide pulp settling down, difference in temperature of nickel hydroxide and that of wash water being minimum 15 °C; nickel hydroxide pulp obtained upon completion of each of three wash procedures is mixed up again and sodium carbonate is added in amount of 15-10 g/l to wash water used for third procedure.

EFFECT: enhanced electrochemical activity of nickel hydroxide at minimal amount of wash water used for removing sodium sulfate therefrom without loss of finely dispersed nickel hydrate fraction.
