FIELD: electrical engineering; medium-class traction batteries.
SUBSTANCE: proposed method concerns charging storage batteries of medium class of charge (class M according to international classification) within comprehensive range of ambient temperatures between -40 and +40 °C, measures being taken to preclude overheat of electrolyte which is essential in particular for batteries operating in buffer connections and for their users, such as most transport facilities of consists. When battery is charged using indirect control of electrolyte temperature dispensing with its temperature sensors, charge is first conducted with steady rated current to admissible final voltage, and as soon as this value of charge voltage known in advance for each type of batteries as function of ambient temperature excluding overheat of electrolyte is attained, rate of charge current variation at steady state charge voltage is measured, and steady state charge voltage is varied (reduced) in inverse proportion during second stage of charge. Time taken for measuring rate of current reduction during second stage of charge is defined as one percent of minimal admissible time of battery charge; variation in charge voltage is conducted in multiple step-by-step manner until desired reduction in charge current is attained during second stage.
EFFECT: ability of providing full charge of traction batteries in comprehensive range of ambient temperatures.
