FIELD: nuclear power engineering.
SUBSTANCE: proposed method used for recovering rejected and unclaimed aluminum-clad fuel elements with uranium-aluminum core involves following procedures. Waste is placed in sodium hydroxide and sodium nitrate solution whereupon mixture temperature is reduced to 60-70 °C and nitric acid is introduced in solution; then mixture is exposed to temperature of 80±10 °C, whereupon mixture is filtered off to extract uranium.
EFFECT: reduced cost and uranium loss in waste recovery.
