FIELD: radioactive waste recovery by way of case-hardening, for instance in container.
SUBSTANCE: proposed method for case-hardening radioactive waste in container for next long-time storage includes solidification of cement binder mixed up with liquid and/or solid radioactive waste in container partially filled with this mixture. Upon solidification of radioactive cement compound free space of container is filled up with non-radioactive mineral binder based shielding coating. Polymictic Cambrian clay is used as binder for shielding coat used to cover solidified radioactive cement compound. If free space is found in container above case-hardened waste, it is filled with clay up to top which is then compacted by cover or by pressurizing the container. When container filled with case-hardened waste is placed in external shielding shipment container of larger size, free space between both containers is also filled up with clay and the latter is compacted.
EFFECT: facilitated production of shielding coat for case-hardened radioactive waste held in container, enhanced reliability of its isolation from environment.
