FIELD: metallurgy, casting production, machine engineering, possibly production of cast pieces of gray hypoeutectic cast iron operating at condition of high wear such as brake shoes of rail road cars, large-size gear wheels, cylinder sleeve, parts of capstan.
SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of using zirconium dioxide (ZrO2) as zirconium containing additive and using silica (SiO2) as silicon containing additive. Components are selected in next relation, mass %: SiO2, 35 - 45; ZrO2, 35 - 45; Al, 10 - 20. Modifying agent is added in quantity 0.02% of mass of gray cast iron in ladle. Invention allows increase by 1.3 times wear resistance of castings of gray hypoeutectic cast iron operating in condition of intensive wear.
EFFECT: increased wear resistance at keeping high strength and deflection, restricted hardness due to lowered specific volume of melt gray cast iron at casting and sharply reduced volumetric shrinkage.
