FIELD: petrochemical processes.

SUBSTANCE: starting material, obtained, in particular, in Fischer-Tropsch process, contains linear α-olefins, saturated hydrocarbons, internal olefins, branched olefins, and alcohols. Method comprises (a) bringing starting material into contact with linear polyaromatic compound to form reaction mixture containing linear polyaromatic compound-olefin adducts, unreacted olefins, unreacted polyaromatic compound, and alcohol; (b) separating linear polyaromatic compound-olefin adducts from saturated hydrocarbons to form stream of adducts; (c) partially or selectively dissociating stream of adducts under conditions effective to increase percentage of polyaromatic compound reacted with linear α-olefins to form stream containing linear polyaromatic compound-olefin adducts, dissociated olefins, and unreacted and dissociated linear polyaromatic compound; (d) separating linear polyaromatic compound-olefin adducts from dissociated olefins; (e) dissociating separated linear polyaromatic compound-olefin adducts to form linear polyaromatic compound and olefin product enriched with α-olefin; (f) separating α-olefin-rich olefin product from polyaromatic compound, wherein separated product is enriched with linear α-olefins as compared to other olefins in starting material.

EFFECT: increased concentration of linear α-olefins.
