FIELD: industrial organic synthesis.
SUBSTANCE: 1,1,3-trimethyl-3-phenylindane useful as plasticizer, high-temperature heat carrier, and intermediate in production high-caloric fuel, lubricating oils, and lubricating oil additives is prepared via cyclooligomerization of α-methylstyrene in presence of BETA-type zeolite-containing catalyst in H form used in amount 1 to 5% at 60-90°C.
EFFECT: simplified process.
