FIELD: technology for diagnosing condition of main pipeline.

SUBSTANCE: in accordance to the invention, pipeline wall is irradiated from the inside with a ray of x-ray radiation with panoramic geometry relatively to axis of x-ray radiation source, using x-ray sensitive elements of first group and x-ray sensitive elements of second group, which are positioned evenly across each half of length of circle which is coaxial to pipeline axis corresponding to each group and positioned symmetrically in pairs relatively to diameter of the aforementioned circle which divides the groups of x-ray sensitive elements, while in advance at flawless section of the pipeline a multi-element transformer is mounted in working position by turning it around the axis of the pipeline to the point of coincidence of diameter which divides the first and the second groups of x-ray sensitive elements and diameter which crosses the axis of x-ray radiation source and the axis of pipeline at the right angle, and in fixed positions of x-ray radiation source difference of signals is measured between each one of N pairs of x-ray sensitive elements of first and second groups which have identical order number n=1,2,3,...,N, where decision about existence and location of defect is made respectively on basis of value and sign of measured differential signals.

EFFECT: increased sensitivity during identification of defects in the pipeline wall.
