FIELD: engineering of signal arrays for communication system with multiple inputs and multiple outputs (MIMO), when knowledge of the channel in the receiver is not complete.
SUBSTANCE: in accordance to the invention, digital representation of n-dimensional actual signal array defines a set of points, where each point is situated within limits of one and only one of at least two (n-1)-dimensional actual subsets, where n=2M, where M - number of transmitting antennas. The n-dimensional actual signal set may define a single sphere or a set of concentric spheres (subsets). The distance between points of adjacent subsets is determined by Kullback-Leibler divergence. Subsets are preferably ordered in symmetric pairs, which define identical numbers of points lying in parallel planes.
EFFECT: usage of aforementioned signal array ensures reduction of complexity of computations; a fitting array may be selected by stopping the search as soon as optimal minimal distance stops increasing with increase of number of concentric levels.
