FIELD: agriculture.

SUBSTANCE: method involves feeding basic material onto vibrating sieving surface of upper sieve shoe; separating large-sized fraction tubers; feeding medium- and small-sized fraction tubers onto lower sieve shoe; separating medium-sized fraction tubers and sieving-through small-sized fraction tubers; separately discharging each fraction from process; feeding elongate-oval and long-oval tubers onto each vibrating sieving surface of sieve shoe, with long axis being oriented in parallel with surface of sieves having long axis openings and course of process by exposing tubers to vibration imparted by wavy surface of orienting apparatus in direction of advancement of tubers. Apparatus has charging device, sieves with sieving vibrating surfaces, and device for discharging each tuber fraction from machine. Wavy orienting device is sequentially and rigidly positioned within each sieve shoe, with lower generatrices of wave semi-cylinders being arranged in single plane with calibrating surface of sieve. Wave radius is Rn=an/2. Wave junction radius r=d/2, depth of grooves defined by waves Hn=(an+d)/2, where n is order number of sieve shoe in down direction, an is boundary value of thickness of tubers to be calibrated and extending through sieve openings of n sieve. Wave pitch sn=an+d and is equal to opening pitch in transverse row of sieve, wherein openings are delimited by rods having diameter d and made elongated and hexagonal in shape.

EFFECT: increased precision of tuber calibration allowing tubers corresponding to agronomical requirements to be obtained, and increased potato sorting efficiency of potato sorting machines.
