FIELD: mechanical engineering; internal combustion engines.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in exhaust systems of internal combustion engines. Proposed metal cellular element, axial length L, is made of metal sheets to which profiled structure is imparted to provide passing of fluid medium flow through cellular element, mainly, exhaust gas flow formed at operation of internal combustion engine, in direction S from input side of end face of cellular element to end face arranged from output side and which are provided, on at least separate sections, with great number of holes. Cellular element in partial volume T, whose axial extension is at least 55% of axial length L of cellular element and radial size is at least 20 mm, is provide with holes in all metal sheets at satisfaction of following conditions: area of each hole is from 1 to 120 sq. mm, are of surface of metal sheet in partial volume T is reduced by 10-80% owing to provision of holes, preferably by 35-60%, as compared with area of surface of nonperforated metal sheet and partial volume T terminates at distance R2, R3 from each end face of cellular element and that is why none of holes do not touch end face edges of metal sheets.
EFFECT: improved noise damping.
