FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: walls of ingot mold are made of monolithic steel and cast iron layers. Method comprises steps of siphon casting of steel to casting mold till level consisting of 3 - 100% of casting mold height; then siphon casting of cast iron till level consisting of 10% of height of cavity of made ingot mold till 100% of casting mold height. Cast iron rises from downwards and displaces melt steel to hot top of casting mold. Rising steel forms solidified outer layers along the whole height of casting mold and inner cast iron layer is arranged between said outer layers. Solidification of steel and cast iron is realized almost simultaneously and it provides monolithic wall of ingot mold. Invention provides more than 500 times of casting melt to ingot mold.
EFFECT: improved strength of ingot mold, lowered labor consumption for making it.
