ANODE EFFECTS PREVENTION METHOD AT ALUMINUM PRODUCTION Russian patent published in 2008 - IPC C25C3/20

FIELD: method for preventing anode effects at producing aluminum by electrolysis due to adding alumina to aluminum cell with preliminarily fired anodes where skum is crushed according to preset pattern.

SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of dividing normal doze of added alumina for further skum crushing by two respectively reduced dozes; at first after crushing skum adding main doze, for example consisting approximately of 50 - 90% of alumina quantity theoretically needed for keeping electrolysis process between procedures of skum crushing; between said procedures, measuring electric resistance of electrolyte; if said resistance begins to increase quickly (that indicates possible occurring of anode effect), driving anodes to mode of pumping action in order to provide skum crushing near anodes and alumina flowing to melt electrolyte and also to create agitation motion inside melt electrolyte. At such lowering of electric resistance anode effect is prevented till next complete crushing of skum.

EFFECT: improved reliability of preventing anode effects.
