SUBSTANCE: method can be used in construction, particularly in lowering water permeability of embankments from loamy soils, which are used in construction with mechanical compression. The method involves measuring natural water content of the water We, plotting the graph density of the soil ρd, against its water content W after experimental compression. The optimum moisture Wo is found, the values of the experimental compression are changed when plotting the graph ρd=f(W) until the value of optimum moisture is attained. The soil layers are filled in and are compressed with intensity of the compressing action, corresponding to the value of the experimental compression when plotting the graph of density versus moisture of the soil. The value of the experimental compression is increased and decreased, and from the results of compression from the graph ρd=f(W), the range of values of reference parameters of density ρd and moisture W, is noted. These are values at which the soil is pilled into the embankment. The upper boundary of the mentioned range is a curve of complete water saturation of the soil pores (Sr), and the lower boarder is a curve for water saturation of Sr =0.9, passing through points, ordinates of which correspond to maximum density of dry soil, and the abscissa correspond to optimum moisture for different values of the compression action on the soil. The method considerably lowers the water permeability of embankments compared to embankments erected the usual way, as well as lower losses on conditioning the water content of the soil.
