FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: there is impulse excitation of acoustic damped oscillations in sections (zones) along the welded joint and subsequent registration of these oscillations using converters with subsequent processing of data in a computer. The distinguishing feature is that, using an electromechanical device, there is impulse excitation of the zones of the pipeline, directly joined to the joint and regularly located at the same distance from each other along the joint. Registration of broadband damped oscillations after excitation of each zone is done through amplitude modulation of a laser beam of a converter, located perpendicular to the axis of the pipe, at a tangent to the surface of the pipe. Registration of signals from each zone is done on two points, located on the same perimeter of the surface of the pipe and located on the same side of the joint as the zone of excitation. Processing of electrical signals of the converter is done in a computer using application programs with use of wavelet analysis.
EFFECT: increased probability of detecting defects on welded joints and lowering labour intensiveness and automation of diagnosis of welded joints.
