FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention concerns obtaining of water-absorbing gum powder applied in absorbing or hygienic articles. First stage of the process involves radical polymerization of basic monomer component containing acrylic acid and/or its salt, 0 to 30 mol % of another monomer and 0.001 to 2 mol % of internal linking agent in presence of 0.001 to 2 mol % of initiator catalyst. At the second stage obtained polymer hydrogel is dried and ground into water-absorbing gum powder with a neutralisation degree of 50 to 90 mol %, average weighted particle diametre of 300 to 600 mcm, and 0 to 10 mass % of particles with diametre under 150 mcm. At the third stage water-absorbing gum powder at the temperature of 40 to 80°C is mixed with surface linking agent which includes surface linking agent, water and 0 to 10 mass % of hydrophilic organic solvent. Fourth stage involves surface linkage by heating the mixture produced. Fourth stage begins within 5 minutes from the end of third stage.
EFFECT: higher absorption characteristics of obtained water-absorbing gum.
