FIELD: gathering and processing electromagnetic data.
SUBSTANCE: electromagnetic wave field is applied to layers through a transmitter, located at the bottom of the sea or near it. Response of the electromagnetic field is detected using at least, one receiver, located at the bottom of the sea or near it. The receiver consists of a detecting pair, consisting of an apparatus for detecting electric field and an apparatus for detecting magnetic field. The detected electromagnetic wave field is processed, separating the wave field with obtaining upward moving and downward moving components. The data obtained from one of the detecting pairs is used for separating the field detected by the other pair. The downward moving component shows reflection from the surface of the sea. The upward moving component shows reflection and refraction from the layers. The upward moving component is analysed and from that, conclusion can be drawn on the nature of the layers.
EFFECT: improved gathering and processing of data.
