SUBSTANCE: invention belongs to the field of digital image processing, particularly to digital filtration of fingerprint images. The technological result is achieved because in the process of successive image area processing with the directional filter having at least one central ridge and adapted to the local parameters of the respective image areas including inter-ridge distance, orientation and curve of the dermal ridges, adaptation of the filter to the local curve is carried out by curving of at least one central filter ridge in such a way so that to approximate its curve to the local curve of the dermal ridge.
EFFECT: increase in efficiency of the image processing at the intensely curved areas of the dermal ridges.
