FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: method involves making granules out of milled topaz concentrate and aluminium hydroxide with dry organic binding agent added in amount sufficient for achieving of given granule porosity, and granule calcination at temperature sufficient for mullite formation. Aluminium hydroxide is added to furnace charge in stechiometric quantity depending on the raw material composition for obtaining target product of 3Al2O3·2SiO2. Polyvinyl alcohol in amount up to 40 wt % is used as dry organic binding agent, and granule calcination in performed in closed mullite crucibles at 1100-1400°C.
EFFECT: simplified industrial method of obtaining maximum output of mullite without costly equipment.
