SUBSTANCE: group of inventions refers to boring, particularly to travel unit for well repair. The unit includes a frame of a cart, a drive wheel connected to the frame of the cart, a drum of the lifting mechanism, supported by the cart frame, a derrick-crane of the lifting mechanism connected to the cart frame, a cable, supported by the derrick-crane of the lifting mechanism and wound around the drum of the lifting mechanism, a block mounted on the cable to transfer lifting force, an engine, supported by the cart frame, an engine speed regulator, a transmission with a drive from the engine, selectively connected to the drum of the lifting mechanism and the drive wheel, a load sensor, generating a load signal which varies in response to a lifting force variation, and a controller comprising the first input for receiving the load signal, the second input for receiving the manually loaded data, and an output, connected to the engine speed regulator. When the output signal is received, the engine speed regulator limits the engine speed in response to the load signal reaching the specified limit; at that the specified limit is introduced manually via the second input of the controller. The method of operating the lifting mechanism, working with alternating load, includes receiving of the manually introduced specified limit, then increasing load up to a maintained specified limit, and limiting fuel consumption in response to load increasing up to the maintained specified limit.
EFFECT: facilitates limitation of the engine speed in response to the load signal achieving the specified limit.
