METHOD OF FILLING FOR CEREBRAL LIQUOR SYSTEM VISUALISATION OF FETES AND NEWBORNS Russian patent published in 2009 - IPC A61M1/00

Abstract RU 2344839 C1

FIELD: medicine; pathomorphology.

SUBSTANCE: to improve quality of cerebral liquor system filling for visualisation of all its compartments, necessary for morphological diagnostics of system pathology, a whole brain extracted from cranial cavity of fetus at 22-40 weeks of gestation is fixed in 10% neutral formalin solution for 2-3 weeks before filling, then liquor system is filled by a syringe connected to intravenous cannula inserted by 2-3 mm through medium aperture into IV ventricle cavity, with filling mass coloured with black ink, in the form of 10 g of dry gelatin dissolved in 240 ml of hot water (80-90°C), filtered, colled down to +37°C and injected under pressure of 200 mm of mercury column. The last 5 ml of solution are filled during gradual cannula retraction from distal compartments of liquor system, followed by cooling the brain down at t +5°C for 1-2 hours. Then cuts are made to visualise different compartments of cerebral liquor system.

EFFECT: improved quality of cerebral liquor system filling achieving filling of all compartments without damage to brain structures, further pathomorphological research possible.
