FIELD: technological processes, metal working.

SUBSTANCE: invention is related to thermal processing of material surface with the help of concentrated energy sources. In order to increase quality of laser processing, expansion of technological resources, increase of efficiency, method includes exposure of treated material to continuous laser radiation focused in light spot in the shape of segment and displaced along specified trajectory with permanent or variable speed, at that preliminarily permissible maximum temperature is defined on the surface of treated material, which exceeds temperature of required structural or phase transformation, speed of light segment displacement and maximum temperatures along line of light segment displacement line in center and at the distance of x=±b/2 from centre, where b is width of processing area, by these parameters power is adjusted, as well as distribution of laser radiation power density, and length L of light segment is selected in the following range of values L=(1.0...1.3)b.

EFFECT: higher quality of laser processing, expansion of technological resources, increase of efficiency.
