FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to laser processing of material, mainly to treatment of surface layer of metal product of complex shape. Invention objective is formation of maximally uniform reinforced layer without fusion of surface at processing on any trajectories. Said conditions ensure high heating and cooling rates of treated surface areas. In the method of processing metal article edges with a diode laser with a multibeam optical system consisting in exposing the surface of a treated object to a continuous laser beam focused in a light spot, the exposure is carried out using a multichannel laser configured to control the power of each unit, wherein in one radiation spot on different sections thereof different power density is set, wherein during rotation of spot on small radius, power density is reduced in accordance with ratio: exposure time is power density.
EFFECT: main advantage is increased wear resistance of surface due to required structural-phase changes of surface layer without its fusion, without necessity of special preparatory and final finishing operations.
