FIELD: process engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to machine building, particularly, to laser processing of parts. Gear surface layer is made from vanadium steel. Surface layer is heated by focused laser beam with power density of 107…108 W/m at the rate of gear feed relative to laser beam making 1…3 mm/s. Said gear id displaced and oscillated so that laser beam is located perpendicular to tooth working surface. Gear is displaced so that laser beam path follows the gear tooth working surface.
EFFECT: uniform structure in surface layer, higher hardness and larger depth.
