FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: silicon dioxide is reduced by zinc, obtaining silicon or zinc silicide, sodium silicates or zinc chloride vapour. The reaction is carried out in a ternary molten slag, containing sodium chloride, silicon dioxide and zinc. The reaction is carried out at temperature above the vapourisation temperature of the zinc chloride formed, but below the vapourisation temperature of zinc.
EFFECT: obtaining silicon without direct contact with carbon, low temperature of required for the process.
