FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention refers to metallurgy, particularly to production of alloys and modifying additives. The method includes charging into crucible, heating, melting first magnesium, then nickel, and melt tapping. Flux melting is produced in the crucible, further magnesium is loaded into the crucible the temperature of which is maintained constant at 650-700°C level to complete dissolution of magnesium. Further nickel is added gradually lowering temperature to 510-560°C till achieving nickel concentration of 22-24%; then the rest amount of nickel is added with a gradual raising temperature of the melt to 1150-1200°C. A rare earth metal or alloy containing rare earth metal or rare earth metals is charged into the crucible together with magnesium. Cerium is used as a rare earth metal. Alloy containing rare earth metals corresponds to a misch metal.
EFFECT: reduced metal loss of alloy at interaction of melt with atmosphere.
