SUBSTANCE: invention relates to power production machinery. The proposed method covers driving the free-piston machine valve. The valve drive mechanism comprises the valve drive piston, slide valve, channel to feed working body to the said slide valve and valve drive control system. Note that free-piston machine valve drive is effected by forcing working body on the valve drive piston. For this, the valve drive control system changes the slide valve over into position allowing the valve to move and opens the cylinder opening inlet. To stop the aforesaid opening inlet, the said control system changes the slide valve over into position allowing the valve to move and stops the cylinder opening inlet.
EFFECT: improved operation of free-piston machine valve drive.
