FIELD: heating.
SUBSTANCE: proposed mechanical-draft tower has a housing with air inlet windows, a fan, drip pan, water distributor and a sprinkler in form of blocks of equal height and uniformly distributed on the whole cross section of the cooling tower. The sprinkler blocks, located along the perimeter of the cooling tower, are made with effective cross section 2-12% less than the effective cross section of the rest of the sprinkler blocks, located in the central part of the cooling tower. The width of the peripheral zone of the cooling tower, in which sprinkler units with smaller effective cross section are put, lies between 20 and 50 equivalent diameters of the channel of the sprinkler units - de, where de=4ε/s, ε is the porosity of the sprinkler unit, m3/m3, s is the specific surface area of the sprinkler, m2/m3.
EFFECT: levelling the velocity field in the cross section of the mechanical-draft tower, thereby increasing efficiency of evaporating cooling of water in the cooling tower due to varying effective cross section of the sprinkler blocks, fitted in the peripheral and central parts of the cooling tower.
