FIELD: physics, nuclear physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention is related to the field of nuclear power engineering and may be used for preparation for storage and transportation of defect spent fuel assembly (SFA), located in protective case, on the bottom of which there is spill of fissile material created in case of SFA shell damage. Method of preparation for storage and transportation of defect spent fuel assembly includes its placement into protective case, filling of case with water. Penal is filled with portion of liquid, which does not contain hydrogen and is not soluble in water, having density higher than water density. Liquid that does not contain hydrogen and is not soluble in water is carbon tetrachloride.
EFFECT: exclusion of probability of self-sustained chain reaction occurrence in fissile material in process of storage and transportation of defect SFA installed in protective cases filled with water.
