FIELD: nuclear power engineering. SUBSTANCE: donor of such inhibitor as ferrous iron is introduced in a canister to ensure iron concentration of 30 - 50 mkg/l. Foil, wire, filings, chips and other products of carbon steels can be used as the donor of ferrous iron in aqueous solutions. Ions Fe2+ reacting with radiolysis products O2 and H2O2 inhibit both radiolytic production of H2O2 and its accumulation in water inside the canister. EFFECT: increased corrosion resistance of spent fuel claddings in at-reactor cooling ponds; higher operational reliability of spent fuel assemblies in their re-use in the core. 2 cl, 1 tbl
