FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention is intended for improving mechanical and operational properties of wire with oval cross section, for example, spacer wire made from steel grade "ЧС-68ИД" for fuel elements in nuclear reactor. The method includes cold plastic strain of the work piece with round cross section and standard size wire production by drafting through molded die. The uniform rate of strain in wire cross section and homogeneous fine grained structure are achieved due to pre-finished size wire straining by cold drawing and producing oval cross section having height such as ao=(0.9÷1.1)a·exp(ε/2) and width bo=(0.9÷1.1)b·exp(ε/2), where ε - preset rate of strain, a and b - height and width of finished size wire accordingly. Besides the wire is drawn in oval caliber. After that drafting is performed through the molded die of pre-finished sizes.
EFFECT: improved mechanical and operational properties of wire with oval cross section.
