METHOD OF FABRICATING WIRE OF OVAL CROSS SECTION Russian patent published in 2009 - IPC B21C1/00

Abstract RU 2357825 C1

FIELD: metallurgy.

SUBSTANCE: method is intended for upgrading mechanical and operational properties of wire of oval cross section, for example for spacer wire of fuel elements of atomic reactors made out of steel "ЧС-68ИД" grade. The method consists in cold plastic deformation of a work-piece of round section and in obtaining wire of required size by means of drawing through a shaping die. Uniform degree of deformation along the section of wire and uniform fine-grain structure are achieved due to deformation of wire of preliminary finished sizes performed by cold rolling and with obtaining oval section of height a0=(0.9÷1.1)a·exp(ε/2) and width b0=(0.9÷1.1)b·exp(ε/2), where ε is specified degree of deformation, and a and b are correspondingly height and width of section of wire of finished sizes; also rolling is performed successively in oval and rib-oval gauge with logarithmic deformation in the direction of bigger axis of oval cross section less 0.10 and not more, than 0.15.

EFFECT: upgrading mechanical and operational properties of wire of oval cross section.
