FIELD: physics; measurement.

SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to aquatic toxicology and can be used for assessing quality of natural water. The method involves the following. A test sample with the control medium is prepared. The sample is taken with the bottom layer of the tested water. Another sample is taken with a soil extract, prepared on bottom water and filtered from its particles, containing a suspension of microalgae. Invertebrate filters are put into these samples and kept there. Parametres are recorded, characterising filtration activity of the invertebrate filters. The obtained data are compared. Toxicity of the "soil-water" contact zone is determined from measuring the test-parametre Ad, calculated using formula: If Ad values are negative, the "soil-water" contact zone is toxic.

EFFECT: increased accuracy and information content of determining toxicity of aqueous system.
