FIELD: transportation.

SUBSTANCE: invention refers to renovation of automatic coupling housing parts and can be used during repair of automatic couplings of railway cars, special equipment and tracks maintenance equipment. Method involves heating of stud for lock retainer of automatic coupling up to temperature of 600-800°C and installation of tread-ring mould thereon. The latter is of height and internal diametre corresponding to stud dimensions. Then to the centre of heated stud from the end surface side there applied is pressure the value whereof is not less than 25 MPa in order to squeese out metal to tread-ring mould walls. Tread-ring mould is removed and end surface of stud is hard-faced.

EFFECT: simplifying production process, and decreasing expensive parts losses.
