FIELD: railway transport; reconditioning by surfacing of step bearing units of large-size parts of above spring and coupling beams of freight cars without subsequent mechanical machining. SUBSTANCE: prior to surfacing, worn out part of step bearing wall surface is removed to form chamfer. Cylindrical template-crystallizer in installed coaxially with step bearing so that clearance between chamfered wall of step bearing and outer side of crystallizer should form vee for subsequent surfacing, with width of opening equal to 0.3-0.7 of its depth. Surfacing is carried out through entire depth of vee with subsequent removal of template-crystallizer. EFFECT: enlarged operating capabilities. 6 dwg
