FIELD: electricity.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to electrical engineering, particularly to consumable electrodes for ingot smelting of highly reactive metals and alloys, for example titanium, using vacuum arc remelting, as well as the method of making the said electrodes. The electrode consists of moulded blocks 1, reinforcement bars 2, consisting of a straight section 3 and a curved section 4. The bars are successively overlapped, with guaranteed length of overlapping 5.
EFFECT: improved strength properties of the consumable electrode and more functional capabilities of standard equipment. The proposed method of making the consumable electrode provides for more uniform melting of the electrode in the section perpendicular its longitudinal axis.
