FIELD: electrical engineering.

SUBSTANCE: invention can be used for detecting substances containing atoms, whose nuclei have quadrupole moment. An object is scanned by modulating signals from a shortwave radiation generator. After that the radiation is converted by a shortwave radiation detector, from the output of which the first data array is recorded into memory of a microprocessor controller, which in turn ties this first data array to a laboratory coordinate system. Nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) signals are then received, emitted by the object under the effect of shortwave radiation, amplitude modulated with NQR frequency and reaching, through an antenna, the input of a receiving channel, from the output of which a second array, with a common laboratory coordinate system with the first array, is recorded into the memory of the microprocessor controller, which in turn creates a spatial image of the test object on a display.

EFFECT: increased certainty of scanning results.
