FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: applied invention relates to plasma engineering and namely to methods of neutron burst generation; invention can be used for nuclear researches, determination of radiation stability of electronic components, for instance, calibration of neutron detectors. Applied method of neutron burst generation is based on discharge formation of plasma focus type by means of high voltage pulse supply to discharge chamber filled by hydrogen isotopes (by deuterium or by mixture of deuterium and tritium). In this regard gas in discharge chamber is preliminary ionised by means of high voltage pulse supply with amplitude of (100÷500) A, duration of (20÷100) ns to chamber electrodes; then with delay of (30÷150) ns main high voltage pulse is sent to discharge chamber, direction of discharge current for preliminary high voltage pulse coincides with direction of discharge current for main high voltage pulse.
EFFECT: increase of neutron yield and enhancement of method stability.
