FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: plasma source of penetrating radiation relates to plasma engineering, particularly to devices for generating neutron beams, and more specifically to generators of non-recurrent pulses of neutron radiation, and can be used in nuclear physics research. The plasma source of penetrating radiation consists of a gas-discharge chamber, containing gas-discharge electrodes and filled with hydrogen isotopes, a high voltage pulse generator, connected to gas-discharge electrodes, a device for controlling high voltage pulse generators, an additional high voltage pulse generator, connected to the anode of the gas-discharge chamber and a shaping preliminary high voltage pulse. The additional high voltage pulse generator can be made from series-connected capacitor and high voltage switch, or in form of a generator of current pulses of nanosecond duration on long line sections. The additional high voltage pulse generator generates a preliminary high voltage pulse with amplitude of (100-500) A and duration of (20-100) ns. The device for controlling high voltage pulse generators generates a control pulse at the first output with delay of (30-150) ns with respect to the pulse from the second output.
EFFECT: invention is aimed at increasing output of neutrons in a pulse of a plasma source of penetrating radiation, as well as providing for stable operation.
