FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to design of an electrolytic cell, meant for production of chlorine, hydrogen and/or caustic soda, for example. The electrolytic device contains a single-cell type element, bounded by two semi-covers, each of which is provided with a rear wall and a peripheral flange, on which there are insulating elements, pressed by fastening elements, fitted in the region of the flanges, containing two electrodes with a membrane between them. The semi-covers have no opening or depression for bolt joint of fastening elements. The ratio of the surface of the flange, covering the said membrane, to the active surface of the membrane is less than 0.09.
EFFECT: minimal inactive surface of membrane due to optimisation of design of the flange.
