FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention is of relevance for metalworking. The surfacial working layer of the item is polished with an electrode machine (EDM) electrode fabricated of copper or a copper-base alloy. Then the above layer undergoes electromechanical strengthening by means of a carbide EDM electrode with the tools and the item being treated forming a common working electrical circuit. Polishing is done till a preset thickness layer is produced with the help of an EDM electrode positioned above the item rotation axis combined with simultaneous superposition of ultrasonic oscillations of a preset frequency and amplitude. Electromechanical strengthening is done at a specific current density and speed.
EFFECT: enhanced resistance to wear of machinery components shaped as solids of revolution.
