FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to cathodic element for equipping electrolyser bath, intended for aluminium production. Cathodic element contains cathodic unit from carbon material, which has, at least, one longitudinal slot on one of its side surfaces, and one connecting steel splint, placed in upper said slot in such way, that part of splint projects from one end of unit, sealed in slot by introduction of sealing conducting material between splint and unit and containing at least one metal insert, whose electro conductivity is higher than elector conductivity of upper said steel. Insert is placed longitudinally inside splint and is placed, at least, partially, in area of connecting splint, intended for placing outside bath, connecting split not being sealed relative to cathodic unit in one non-sealed zone with given surface S, located on the end of slot in unit head.
EFFECT: provided is essential reduction of total drop of cathodic voltage and density of current in unit head.
