FIELD: electrical engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an accumulator water heater and a method of protecting the reservoir of the water heater from electrochemical corrosion. The accumulator comprises a metallic reservoir, heating element, thermostatic devices, impressed current cathodic protection devices, power supply control system and a consumable anode. The method involves measuring potential of the reservoir while the heating element switched off, storing the measured potential value, comparing the measured value with a first control value and, if the potential exceeds the control value, operating current is increased by a given value and potential is decreased until it is lower than the control value. The measured potential is compared with a second control value and if the potential is higher than the control value, the last value of operating current, obtained from successive increasing, is maintained.
EFFECT: more effective protection from corrosion.
