FIELD: electrical engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to electrical measuring techniques. According to the invention, integral assessment of acoustic and electromagnetic emissions of partial discharges, arising in insulations of an overhead system of railway transport, is made. At the first stage faults in the catenary are scanned using an ultrasonic microphone, a broadband antenna and a digital oscilloscope. The number of pulses of partial discharges arising in the faulty catenary is analysed using a measuring device. The number of faulty insulators in the scanned bunch is determined by the repetition rate of packets of acoustic and electromagnetic pulses of partial discharges. At the second stage, spectral characteristics of high-frequency electromagnetic radiation of pulses of partial discharges are analysed using a broadband antenna and a digital oscilloscope. The value and number of discharges in the bunch is determined from the level of signal received by the broadband antenna and the shape of the spectrum, and functional state of the scanned catenary is then determined.
EFFECT: invention can be used for detecting faulty insulation elements of an alternating current overhead system of railway transport.
